Garden City, NY – Nassau Community College is the official Nassau County location for this year's American Heart Walk. Nearly 3,000 volunteers and participants are expected to take part in the Walk, which will take place on Sunday, September 30 at the NCC Field House, with a health fair and registration from 8:30 a.m. to 9:30 a.m. and the Walk itself starting at 10:00 a.m. Lunch will be provided for registered participants and volunteers after the Walk.
"Nassau Community College is pleased to be the Nassau County host for the American Heart Walk for the sixth year," said Dr. Sean A. Fanelli, President of NCC. "The partnership established over the years between the College and the American Heart Association has created opportunities for thousands of walkers to raise much needed funding for heart and stroke research."
This year, NCC will be walking in honor of Bernard Maltese, assistant to the Coordinator of the International Student Affairs Department at the College. In 1995, Maltese had a quadruple bypass. Since then, he has had several other heart related procedures.
John King, the Chair of the 2007 American Heart Walk, is Chief Customer Officer at J. Kings Food Service Professionals, Inc. Reginald Tuggle, the Director of College/Community Relations at the College, is the NCC Heart Walk Team Chair.
The American Heart Walk, sponsored by the American Heart Association, is a 5K walking event established to raise funds in the fight against heart disease and stroke on Long Island. It also promotes cardiovascular health and regular exercise.
