The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery at Nassau Community College Presents "Seen/Unseen", November 1 – December 23
Garden City, NY The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery at Nassau Community College (NCC) is pleased to present the exhibition Seen/Unseen, which runs from Saturday, November 1 through Tuesday, December 23. Seen/Unseen contrasts the work of two sculptors: Richard Gachot and Judith Pestronk. These artists' interpretations are diverse as they decipher the same subject according to their own conception. What is that subject? Bugs!
Eclectic in her project choices, Judith Pestronk likes to use new techniques and develop them into her own unique style through the use of diverse materials clay, stone, wood, steel, fused glass and gold. Her work can be found in private collections as well as museums in New York, The National Portrait Gallery of the Smithsonian Institute in Washington and the National Arts Museum in Krakow, Poland.
Richard Gachot's sculpture is often described as “found object art,” yet there is much more to it than that. In his words, “What I do is more than putting pieces together to resemble something else. An array of found objects of different sizes, shapes, color and texture on my workshop floor is like a drawer full of paint tubes.” Gachot finds inspiration in reclaiming and transforming discarded objects into simple and straightforward statements of humor and irony, incorporating them into his works in ways that often make the viewer see them in ways previously not considered.
The Firehouse Plaza Art Gallery, located in Room 140 of the College Center Building (CCB) on the NCC campus, is open from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, and 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Saturday. All exhibitions are free and open to the public. For further information about this upcoming exhibit, please call 516.572.0619.
