Literature Live! at Nassau Community College Welcomes Poet Joseph O. Legaspi
Garden City, NY - The Literature Live! program at Nassau Community College will welcome poet Joseph O. Legaspi to the campus on Tuesday, April 28 at 2:30 p.m. in the Bradley Hall Ballroom. Legaspi willread from his debut collection of poems entitled "Imago".
"Imago" has been described as “a collection of luminous, elegiac poems” in which Legaspi “bravely documents a boy's painful and poignant rites of passage in becoming a man." Richly evoking the landscapes of the Philippines and immigrant America, the collection depicts the desires of an uprooted family, which translates into a son's powerful voice of self-reckoning.” Born in the Philippines, Legaspi moved with his family to Los Angeles when he was 12. A graduate of New York University's Creative Writing Program, he now teaches at Columbia University. Legaspi's works have appeared in many publications. A recipient of a poetry fellowship from the New York Foundation for the Arts, Legaspi also co-founded Kundiman, a non-profit organization serving Asian American poets.
Literature Live! is the reading series of The Creative Writing Project of Nassau Community College, which invites nationally and internationally acclaimed authors to share their work and experiences. For more information about Legaspi's appearance at NCC — which is free and open to the public — contact Prof. Richard Newman, Creative Writing Project Coordinator, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 516.572.7720.
