Nassau Community College Presents Seymour Lachman
The Man Who Saved New York: Hugh Carey and the Great Fiscal Crisis of 1975
Former New York State Senator Seymour Lachman
Garden City, New York – The Nassau Community College Spring 2011 Cultural Program is proud to present former New York State senator Seymour Lachman, who will present The Man Who Saved New York: Hugh Carey and the Great Fiscal Crisis of 1975. The event will take place on Wednesday, February 16 at 9:30 a.m. in the College Center Building.
In a book he co-authored, Lachman contends that it was primarily Gov. Hugh Carey’s leadership that rescued New York City and State from financial catastrophe in 1975. Calling Carey one of the greatest-ever governors of New York in The Man Who Saved New York: Hugh Carey and the Great Fiscal Crisis of 1975, Lachman also notes that Carey was blessed with visionary bipartisan legislative leadership and a coterie of ingenious advisers. He believes that today’s overstretched states and counties can learn from the experience of Carey’s administration.
Lachman served five terms in the New York State Senate. He has taught theory of government courses at Baruch College, the CUNY Graduate Center and Wagner College, where he is currently director of the Hugh L. Carey Center for Government Reform.
The Man Who Saved New York: Hugh Carey and the Great Fiscal Crisis of 1975 is free, open to the public and accessible to the disabled. For more information, call 516.572.7153.
