The Center for Service Learning provides the framework and methods to link service with the curriculum and to make service an integral part of students’ education so they are prepared to be lifelong learners, responsible community members and productive citizens. Nassau Community College developed the Center for Service Learning to systematically involve and support students in educational important public service experiences.
Service-Learning is the blending of both service and learning goals and experiences that are enriched by each other and greater together than separate. It is a teaching method and educational experience that helps students learn and develop through active participation in thoughtfully organized service experiences that provide structured time for reflections, while fostering academic learning, a sense of caring and civic responsibility.
NCC’s Service-Learning program has great impacts on the community, the college and especially the students. We want more students and faculty involved in Service-Learning. Service Learning is an important teaching and learning method that helps to build and strengthen communities while bringing the curriculum to life.
