Test for Essential Academic Skills (TEAS)

Beginning with the Fall 2013 class, the Test for Essential Academic Skills (TEAS) exam will be required for all incoming nursing program applicants. TEAS offers the College an additional standardized assessment tool to review applicant skill levels. Test results will be taken into consideration for admission.

How do I register for the exam?
Create an account. You will then be able to select a date and register for the exam. You will need your NCC student ID number. Your NCC-ID is in the form of "N00XXXXXX" and is entered as capital N, followed by 2 zeros and 6 unique numbers that belong to you. A credit or debit card for the $80 non-refundable fee is also required. If you fail to test on your scheduled dates, you will need to re-register for the exam and re-pay for the new exam.

When is the exam offered?
The exam dates will be offered for approximately eight weeks before the application deadlines in March and October. Specific dates will be on the ATI website and posted on the Nassau Community Colleges Nursing Program website.

Where is the exam offered?
All candidates must report at 8:30 am to room LSB 3-24 in the Life Science Building on the campus at NCC. The exam will start at 9am. Late arrivals will not be seated and fees are non-refundable.

The date I want to test is full. Do you accept walk-ins?
We do not accept walk-ins. You must register in advance, usually, a minimum of 48 hours before the exam. We have a limited number of seats available for each exam.

Are there any requirements to take the test at NCC?
A valid government issued photo ID such as a driver's license, state-issued ID or passport are required to test. Only NCC students and NCC Nursing Program applicants can register to take the exam at NCC. If you register and are not a student at the college you may forfeit your registration fee. Bring your confirmation along with your ATI username and password to the exam.

What does the exam test you on?
The TEAS test is designed to assess knowledge and skills in four areas: math, reading, English and science. The reading subtest consists of items that include paragraph comprehension, passage comprehension and inferences/conclusions. The math subtest includes whole numbers, metric conversion, fractions, decimals, algebraic equations, percentages and ratio/proportion. The science subtest includes science reasoning, science knowledge, biology, chemistry, anatomy, physiology, basic physical principles and general science. The English and language subtest includes items covering punctuation, grammar, sentence structure, contextual words and spelling.

How long is the exam?
The time Limit is 209 minutes or about 3 and a half hours. There are a total of 170 multiple choice questions. Calculators may NOT be used for the test.

What if I do not do well on the exam? Can I take it again?
Applicants may only take the TEAS two times during the admission cycle (September 1through August 31). Test attempts must be 45 days apart. If you choose to take the test a second time, you must register and pay all fees again.

I took the test someplace else. Can I send a transcript to NCC?
If you did not choose to have your scores sent to NCC, you may go to the ATI website and have an official score report sent to the Office of Admissions at Nassau Community College.

I took the test two years ago. Are my scores still good?
Test scores will be valid for one year.
