The Long Island Writing Project (LIWP) Invitational Summer Institute brings together a select group of reflective practitioners in all academic content areas and at all grade levels, kindergarten through college. Supported by the LIWP directors and each other, these teachers spend four weeks immersed in writing, reading, and teacher inquiry, ultimately returning to their classrooms empowered to bring their students to higher levels of performance. In addition, as LIWP teacher leaders, they will have a multitude of opportunities to continue their own professional development. In this way, the summer institute represents the first step in what thousands of writing project teacher-leaders around the country have described as a career-transforming journey.
