Nassau Snaps Trinity Valley's 21 game Winning Streak
The #5 ranked Lions hand #2 nationally ranked Trinity Valley CC their first lost of the season by beating the Cardinals (66-56) in the Battle of the Valley kick-off classic. The victory snapped TVCC's 21 game winning streak. Quarterback Ben Holmes led the way by throwing for 3 touchdowns (20-31, 236yds), as well as running for 2 touchdowns. No. 5 Nassau Faces No. 2 Trinity Valley
The 2015 Northeast Football Conference’s 19th season opens this week with Nassau Community College, the nation’s fifth-ranked team, playing at Trinity Valley, the nation’s second-ranked team. The game, called “Battle in the Valley” kicks off at 8 p.m. (EDT) Saturday in Athens, Texas. The Lions went 10-0 on their way to the 2014 NEFC title. The title was the Lions’ third, winning titles in 2005 and 2010.
Quarterback Ben Holmes, the 2014 NEFC Offensive Player of the Year, returns to the Lions as does 2014 first-team linebacker selection Walter Cooper. In addition, second-team selections Malcolm Pridgeon (offensive line) and Tyrell Chavis (defensive line) return. Both were named to the 2015 College Football America Junior College Starting Lineup, CFA’s version of an All-America team.
Nassau head coach Joe Osovet was named the 2014 USA JUCO Football Coach of the Year by USA College Football and the Metropolitan New York Football Writers. He is the inaugural recipient of the award, which recognizes the outstanding community college coach in Eastern football.
Nassau has posted a 25-3 conference record since 2010. In addition, the Lions have been ranked 115 times since the 2004 NJCAA preseason poll. The Lions, who were ranked sixth in the final 2014 NJCAA poll, have also been ranked in the following consecutive final polls: 2009 (11), 2010 (4), 2011 (13), 2012 (11) and 2013 (15).
Nassau’s Pridgeon, Chavis named to CFA Juco Starting Lineup
The College Football America 2015 Yearbook is proud to announce that Nassau CC offensive lineman Malcolm Pridgeon and defensive lineman Tyrell Chavis have been named to the College Football America Junior College Starting Lineup, CFA’s version of an All-America team. Pridgeon blocked for a running game that compiled 1,773 yards and 24 touchdowns in 2014. He also provided pass protection for a passing game that gained 1,717 yards in the air. Chavis finished last season with 23 tackles and six tackles for loss.
