The Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee together with the Sexual Assault Awareness and LGBTQIA+ Subcommittees of Nassau Community College hosted a series of events this week in recognition of Sexual Harassment and Assault Awareness Week. This is a time to stand in solidarity with survivors, raise awareness, and create a safe space for open conversations. At NCC, we are committed to ensuring our campus is free from harassment and violence.
Events this week featured speakers addressing topics such as sexual harassment, assault, and personal stories of survival. Representatives from The Retreat, a direct service agency offering free, confidential support—such as a 24-hour bilingual hotline, shelter, counseling, legal advocacy, and prevention education—also visited campus to lead discussions on recognizing healthy versus unhealthy relationships and raising awareness about sex trafficking.
In the Library, the "What Were You Wearing?" student-survivor installation, initiated by the University of Kansas and brought to NCC with their support, challenged rape myths and shared the powerful stories of sexual violence survivors.
A sincere thank you to everyone who helped organize and participate in these important events. We encourage you to engage in educational events, share resources, and help foster a culture of respect and empathy.Photos from Nassau Community College's post ... See moreSee less

This week, NCC recognized Disabilities Awareness Week on campus with a series of events. The Office of Student Activities hosted Preservation Long Island for a discussion about a mural project at the King's Park Psychiatric Center. Additionally, the Access Club and the Center for Students with Disabilities co-sponsored a panel discussion featuring current students and alumni, who shared their personal journeys as students with disabilities and reflected on what disability means to them. The events were both insightful and inspiring. Thank you to everyone who participated.
NCC’s Center for Students with Disabilities offers a range of student support services to serve students with documented physical/medical, visual, learning, emotional, or hearing disabilities who have been accepted at NCC. The Center provides them with resources and support to gain confidence, become independent, develop learning strategies and skills, and capitalize on their strengths.
