Life Experience Credit
The Accounting and Business Administration Department of Nassau Community College invites matriculated students to apply for life experience credit toward an A.A.S. or A.S. degree in any of our major areas. Upon approval of the Evaluating Committee, credit will be granted to an applicant who has completed the procedure described below.
COURSES FOR WHICH CREDIT MAY BE AWARDED:
ACC 101 and ACC 102 - Principles of Accounting 1 & 2
ACC 107 - Principles of Accounting A
BUS 110 - Introduction to Business
BUS 111 - Small Business Management
BUS 112 -Principles of Management
ACC 203 - Federal Income Taxes
WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
Any mature student matriculated at Nassau Community College who believes that work experience or other education has given the student the equivalent knowledge covered by the course content.
PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING CREDIT:
1 . Complete and return application form below along with a resume to which must be attached all authenticated supporting documentation (official transcripts, letters from former teachers or employers).
2. Be interviewed by the Faculty Committee of the department.
3. Successfully complete a qualifying examination prepared by the faculty. (Waiver may be granted at thediscretion of the Faculty Committee).
EVALUATION AND ADMINISTRATION:
The determination of the award for life experience credit shall be made solely at the discretion of the Department Committee, one of whose members will have expertise in the course for which life experience is being sought. The Evaluation Committee's decision shall be binding and may not be appealed.
The decision will then be forwarded to the Dean of Instruction who will notify the Registrar to award credit. The student's transcript will show the name of the course and the number of credits received, but no grade. The Department will notify the student of the success or failure of the application.
OTHER RELEVANT INFORMATION:
1 . No credit may be awarded for any course not offered by this department.
2. Credit will be granted to any student enrolled at Nassau Community College.
GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS OF APPLICANT FOR ALL REQUESTS FOR LIFE EXPERIENCE CREDIT
1 . Recent transcript from the college.
2. Three letters from immediate supervisors, general managers, etc. as specified in the guidelines for life experience must be attached to the application.
3. A complete resume.
4. A completed application for life experience, with items in numbers 1,2, 3 attached. See address on the application.
